Back to Blogging

It's been one year, two months and one day since my last published blog post.  What first started as a cathartic outlet for my new mom frustrations and emotions had become a chore and yet another source of self-imposed pressure and deadlines.  As an innately competitive person, I began to measure my "success" as a blogger by the number of followers I had, the number of page views I recorded and the number of "likes" on my Facebook page.  The more these numbers grew, the less I enjoyed blogging.  It came to the point that I had to make a decision to put my family, my job and myself first and not spend time on periphery distractions that sucked away my time and energy.  I kept my domain name and social media pages, because I knew I wasn't ready to call it quits just yet.  But with blogging taking more from me than it was giving, I needed a break.   And so began my blogging hiatus.

There's been a lot over the past year that would have been blog-worthy.  But as opposed to thinking about capturing the perfect photo for the blog post or what words I'd use to get the most clicks, I decided to just truly live those moments.  Experience the memorable, the challenging, the simple moments of every day life with my new toddler, sweet husband and growing baby number 2.  It's been a wild year since starting my blogging break, culminating in the birth of my second little girl on September 13, 2013 (Friday the 13th!) after a "breezy" six and a half hours of labor.  Emerson Elizabeth joined our family at a healthy 11 pounds, 2 ounces and 22 inches long.

Now that she's a month old and I've started to get the hang of being a mom of two and have adjusted to the lack of sleep, I'm looking forward to sharing some of my challenges and experiences with the blogging community again.  But this time around, I've made a commitment to always put my daughters, my husband, my job and myself first.  There have been plenty of times that blogging was putting myself first, as it's been so therapeutic for me to share my stories and connect with other women.  But I'm pledging to take a step back whenever it becomes a burden, not feeling the pressure to meet any blogging quotas or requirements.  My priorities are, and will continue to be, anything that either (1) pays the bills or (2) depends on me for survival.

Till next time...whenever I get to it!

Sweet Pea Baby Shower

In the little spare time that I do have, I really enjoy designing & planning events.  Recently, my mother-in-law and I hosted a baby shower for my sister-in-law and I was looking forward to being able to "do my thing" as my MIL isn't huge on the details.  Since the gender of the baby is a surprise, I decided to go with a "Sweet Pea" theme in green & yellow, with pink and blue accents.

I still need to blog about our recent week-long camping trip but until then, I wanted to share a little graphic that my husband made from a photo he snapped while we were there:

Yup, MG peed all over me just seconds before this pic was taken.  Can you tell it wasn't the first time?

And I have to admit: it was a few hours before I made my way over to the camp showers.
